Position: Student Affairs Specialist

Overview
Under general supervision, identifies potential recruiting sources, develops recruiting materials and presentations, provides admissions counseling and guidance in student-related matters. Plans, organizes and conducts department programs and special events. Determines applicants admissibility, manages recruitment territory, conducts high school and community visits. Participates in the development and implementation of the University’s marketing and recruitment plan. May identify new and expands relationships with employing organizations. May supervise student employees. May act as business/advertising manager and production manager.
- Providing information to international students applying to UAB and guiding them through the admissions process.
- Serving as a DSO (Designated School Official) for the University’s F-1 student program.
- Assisting the Foreign Student Advisor with immigration paperwork as needed and collecting financial documentation for issuance of the visa documents.
- Assisting the Director and Associate Director with recruitment materials and coordinating shipments to the various educational fairs/recruitment events.
- Facilitating prospective student communication through the recruitment software.
- Collecting and maintaining student data on enrollment and recruitment efforts.
- Preparing required reports needed for department and institutional purposes.
- Assisting in supervision of student employees.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must have strong communication skills and enjoy working with people from other countries.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Counseling, Education or a related field required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Experience with SEVIS and/or Banner and fluency in a second language are a plus.
