Overview:
Athena Study Abroad is looking for an individual to promote, outreach, and assist in coordinating enrollment for Athena’s education abroad programs with a special focus on fostering and developing Athena’s west coast partnerships. The Academic Relations Representative is responsible for recruiting quality students to apply for and attend Athena Study Abroad programs. In addition to recruitment, the Academic Relations Representative will also develop and maintain strong relationships with staff and students at US institutions, maintain quality relationships with overseas partner college staff members, provide the highest quality advising and mentoring for all Athena students, and serve as an analyst for enrollment. The person in this role will work under the direct supervision of the Manager of Academic Relations to continue to establish relevant and effective relationships and outreach initiatives based on individual program goals.
Job Duties:
- Maintain and strengthen ongoing relationships with administrators, faculty and advisors at Athena partner institutions
- Establish and develop relationships with administrators, faculty and advisors at potential partner institutions
- Become proficient in the benefits, points of differentiation, and program details for all Athena programs
- Advise potential students on Athena program details in person, via phone, online chat, social media and email
- Responsible for entering and validating new student lead information
- Conduct organized follow-up with student inquiries and applicants
- Schedule and coordinate personal recruiting travel
- Establish a weekly visitation schedule
- Actively recruit students on campuses through informational sessions, academic meetings, study abroad fairs, and classroom visits
- Increase participation on Athena’s programs to meet assigned enrollment goals
- Provide activity reports and enrollment projections
- Collaborate with the Academic Relations Team and Athena divisions to develop marketing and recruitment strategies
- Strategize to develop new marketing/recruiting techniques and materials
- Understand the unique needs of U.S. institutions and propose creative solutions to aid in those needs
- Assist with tabulation of program evaluations
- Assist in processing new student applications as necessary
- Participate in professional organizations and attend appropriate conferences
- Involves heavy in-person, telephone, and email outreach to prospective students
- Carry out communication plans
- Assist in counseling of applicants utilizing financial aid as assigned
- Assist with development and mailing of informational packets to continuing education program participants
- Manage special projects as assigned
- Provide administrative support to Athena as necessary
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- At least two (2) years experience in the field of study abroad preferred
- Experience working, studying, or volunteering abroad is required
- Being an alum of an Athena Study Abroad program a big plus
- Candidate must be organized, a self-starter, motivated, and innovative to succeed in this role as this position will be stationed in a satellite location
- Proven track record in recruitment, enrollment management, or higher education admissions preferred
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively within the US with a primary focus on west coast travel is required (estimated at 75% annually, highs and lows vary by season)
- Occasional trips overseas for strategic meetings with staff and students may be required
- High level of flexibility
- Ability to be a positive and committed team player while also working independently and maintaining self-discipline and direction is required
- Strong interpersonal communication and advising abilities
- Strong aptitude for multitasking and organization
- Strong leadership aptitude
- Strong student-service focus
- Skilled in working under pressure, and strength in handling stressful situations
- Ability to make effective presentations
- Proficiency in foreign language(s) a benefit
- A strong network in international education field to aid in establishing and maintaining relationships a plus
- Knowledge of and experience with student visa regulations preferred but not required
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and database navigation
- Knowledge of US university infrastructure and experience in higher education is also a plus
