Overview:
The University of Missouri at Columbia (MU, Mizzou) is an AAU, Research I university, and serves as the state’s flagship campus. Participation in education abroad programs has tripled in the past decade, with nearly 1300 MU students studying overseas in 2011-12. Responsibilities Include:
Program Management and Student Advising:
•Coordinates study abroad programs in Italy, Latin America, Portugal, Spain and all Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries. Promotes programs, advises students, coordinates admissions processes, provides visa advising, organizes country-specific orientations, and manages problems and special situations as needed.
•Serves as primary liaison between MU and US and overseas contacts for MU education abroad programs in these countries.
•Advises students, faculty, staff, and parents about MU opportunities for study abroad and administrative policies and procedures.
•Works with the Director of Study Abroad and on-campus and overseas colleagues to monitor and evaluate all study abroad programs in the assigned countries.
Additional Responsibilities:
•Coordinates comprehensive Pre-Departure Orientations for the entire university community for approximately 1300 participants in MU’s study abroad programs and their families. Coordinates updates to the General Orientation Manual utilized by all participants in MU study abroad programs.
•Distributes general written and electronic communication to families of students participating in education abroad programs.
•Coordinates process of updating application and acceptance materials related to the health, safety, and security of students participating on all MU education abroad programs.
Qualifications:
Applicants for the job must have the following:
– Bachelor’s degree.
– International experience through study or work abroad.
– Strong written communication skills.
– Ability to establish effective working relationships within the university community.
– Strong organizational and administrative skills.
– Ability to multi-task and function in a fast-paced, high-volume office setting.
Skills that are highly desirable include:
– Master’s degree
– Foreign language abilities. Proficiency in Spanish language preferred.
– Previous experience advising/counseling students in an education abroad office or other university environment.
– Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher).
