Overview:
Working with a large number of internal and external stakeholders around the world, your job is to help foster a network of learners and educators, focusing on content development and communications/visibility for the AFS Education; Intercultural Learning (ICL) Services Department. You will be a key representative of AFS helping to build our educational efforts and enhance our value proposition; preparing people to live, work and lead in an increasingly interconnected world; in service of the AFS mission and within the context of the larger global education marketplace. You have a strong background in intercultural relations theory and practice, as well as strategic communications (including marketing/public relations/advocacy), and are an excellent communicator; both verbally and visually; who sees both the big picture as well as fine details.
Job responsibilities:
• Help set then implement and manage communications strategy internally, Liaise with all member organizations to understand needs and clearly convey opportunities/services. Serve as day-to-day point person for the department. Support high-level international advisory and work groups.
• Help set then implement and manage global communications strategy and campaign externally with high focus on visibility of AFS as an educational institution. Foci include media, conferences, educator and policy outreach and more.
• Inform content strategy then develop content/tools/events – documents, activities, exhibits and online – plus some training and curriculum development. Oversee internal and external resources supporting this effort.
Qualifications:
• Strategic, solutions-oriented creative thinker able to generate high-caliber, high-volume, detail- oriented outputs
• Graduate-level degree in intercultural relations studies (or similar) with strong familiarity with contemporary theories, concepts, academicians, research, and practices, including intercultural competence assessment methodologies and training programs
• Background in education/training/teaching (including informal), ideally both with youth and adults, including curriculum design
• Background in communications, e.g. PR/advocacy/marketing/branding, with design sensibilities as well as tech and media savvy
• Self-sufficient yet highly collaborative, enjoys working in a fast-paced, high-energy international, multicultural environment
• Flexible multitasker, comfortable with ambiguity, able to travel and work hours dictated by an organization that covers all timezones
• Fluency in spoken, written, editing English and Spanish (written content samples required) and able to communicate effectively and comfortably to a wide range of audiences
• High motivation combined with a deep personal belief in AFS’s aims and values – A passion to excel and a strong sense of humor
• 5-10 years professional experience
