Overview:
The Yomiuri Shimbun’s London Bureau is looking for a researcher/assistant for 12 month period.
Job description:
The post involves assisting Japanese journalists with their coverage, including:
* gathering background information and conducting research,
* monitoring breaking news via newswire services and TV/radio broadcasts,
* handling media accreditation,
* arranging and conducting interviews and typing up transcripts,
* attending press conferences and writing briefing notes,
* liaising with various government departments and press officers in other organisations.
Applicants must:
* be a native English language speaker and a UK citizen,
* hold one or more bachelor’s or higher degrees in social sciences (political science, economics, sociology, etc), international relations/studies, law or journalism,
* have a keen interest in current affairs with good knowledge in international affairs, political economy, business and sports,
* be an excellent interpersonal communicator and have demonstrable negotiation and persuasion skills,
* digitally literate,
* willing to work extra hours.
And:
* It could be a “plus” if the applicant has interest towards and/ or experience in Japan and Japanese language ability.
