Position Description:
The Program Coordinator for JET & Educational Affairs will work closely with consulate officers and other local staff to implement administration for the JET program and other related educational programs within Northern California and Nevada. This position requires a strong familiarity with the JET Program and the Japanese educational system; the ideal candidate should also have excellent communications, outreach, and public presentation skills. Successful candidates should also be prepared to work as part of a larger Consulate team on other public outreach projects as needed.
Job Duties:
•Recruit, assess, and select qualified participants for the JET program.
•Develop and maintain effective working relationships with local institutions of higher education.
•Manage and develop program materials; deliver presentations to diverse audiences.
•Recruit, train, and evaluate program interviewers.
•Manage multi-day orientation programs for departing JETs.
•Act as the Consulate’s primary point of contact for program alumni relations.
•Advise program candidates on required documentation and visa processing issues.
•Assist with the implementation of educational workshops and projects.
•Update and manage confidential program databases for applicants and alumni.
•Creating and maintaining web content relating to program areas
•Assist with various office cultural programs; respond to inquiries from the general public.
•Drive consulate vehicles in an official capacity as needed (for events, recruiting, etc.)
Basic Requirements:
•A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
•Excellent written and spoken English; strong communication and interpersonal skills.\
•The ability to organize work and handle multiple priorities to strict deadlines.
•Experience presenting and speaking to large, diverse groups.
•Strong organizational skills and a familiarity with MS Office (including MS Access).
•Previous experience with and knowledge of the JET Program, ideally as a past participant.
•A strong interest in and knowledge of Japanese culture and education.
•A full and valid driver’s license.
Preferred Requirements:
•A strong public service orientation; superior problem solving ability and team building skills.
•Japanese language proficiency and familiarity with Japanese work environments.
•Progressively responsible educational or exchange program coordination experience.
•A demonstrated understanding of US-Japan relations.
•Active participation with a local JET alumni association; experience as a chapter officer.
•Experience with alumni relations and international exchange programs a plus.
