Overview:
A financial services and private investment group and one of the nation’s leading providers of commercial mortgages for multifamily and healthcare properties seeks an FHA Mortgage Credit Specialist.  The firm is headquartered in New York City, with analytical groups located in Virginia, Maryland, Tennesee offices.  Location is somewhat flexible, as long as near one of these offices. The ideal candidate will be a leader and team player, someone who can work in a collaborative environment and possesses drive, integrity, creativity, compassion and a strong work ethic.

FHA Mortgage Credit Specialist
Complete mortgage credit analyses on individuals and companies seeking financing on commercial real estate.  Review resumes, credit reports, and financial statements to determine credit worthiness and financial capacity consistent with established HUD criteria.  Individual will work across established underwriting teams to provide this specialized skill on each deal underwritten by the firm.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities
1.     Research and review current and revised HUD mortgage credit policies and standards
2.     Analyze Credit Reports, Dun & Bradstreet Business Reports, and key documentation
3.     Analyze Real Estate Owned (REO) and Debt Schedules and complete exit strategy analyses
4.     Review Financials and provide working capital and liquidity analysis, per HUD guidelines
5.     Evaluate key principals’ experience and suitability based on OFAC, HUD databases, and references
6.     Identify credit issues that must be addressed and creatively brainstorm solutions, when appropriate
7.     Complete the mortgage credit sections for the HUD application submission
8.     Track maturing loans as potential refinance candidates and refer to origination teams for follow through

Experience, Skills and Abilities Required
1.     Five or more years in a related field evaluating the credit worthiness of a borrower
2.     Single-family or Fannie Mae experience acceptable, multifamily and/or HUD experience a plus.
3.     Excellent written and verbal communication with the appropriate balance of flexibility and persuasion
4.     Familiarity with small businesses, real estate finance and/or loan structures.
5.     Strong quantitative, general accounting and finance skills.
6.     Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to meet strict deadlines.
7.     Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to work with diverse personalities.
8.     Advanced knowledge of Word and Excel.
9.     Creative thinker that enjoys the challenge of making transactions work while mitigating the underlying risk.
