Responsibilities:
The Education & Learning Manager oversees all components of IRC Atlanta’s Education services to refugee children, youth and adults. Adult education services include English as a Second Language instruction; job readiness and vocational training; computer skills instruction; financial literacy, cultural orientation and life skills instruction. Youth services include year-round after school and summer programs for refugee teens, youth internship program, and special safety, career, and enrichments programs. The Education Manager is a full-time, exempt position reporting directly to the Executive Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee and coordinate the daily operations of IRC Atlanta’s Education & Learning programs, providing guidance, leadership, and direct supervision in all aspects of service provision
- Develop and enhance the design of education & learning services, including ESL, family literacy, job readiness and vocational training, youth after-school, summer camp, computer literacy, cultural orientation and other emerging services
- Monitor education & learning services to ensure compliance with all program standards and grant requirements
- Coordinate preparation of all program reports (quantitative and narrative ) required by active funding sources
- Ensure accurate tracking of client progress, outcome indicators and client records
- Identify new grant and funding opportunities and participate actively in grant-writing and program development and design
- Recruit, train and supervise all paid and volunteer staff for education services, including the instructional, childcare, youth and supplemental program teams
- Collaborate actively with other refugee youth and adult education service providers, mainstream service providers, school and other community partners and ensure that appropriate referrals are made to other IRC and external programs
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Executive Director on status of education programs and provide timely reports on management issues
- Participate actively in IRC Atlanta Leadership Team and model excellence in leadership
REQUIREMENTS:
- University degree (BA) in Education, Social Work, or closely related field required; MA in same fields strongly preferred
- Minimum of 5 years work experience with progressive levels of responsibility, including supervisory and program management experience in non-profit or educational sector a must
- Minimum of 2 years of work experience in social/educational programs serving youth, at risk populations or refugees required; direct experience in educational and vocational counseling preferred;
- Previous professional experience in development or curriculum for ESL, adult education and adult literacy a strong plus
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with adolescents, multi-cultural clients, employers, grantors, and colleagues on all levels.
- Outstanding organizational, leadership and team-building skills: the ability to promote productivity and efficiency
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, Outlook; internet research
- International work or study experience and second language abilities or demonstrated ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural environment
