Job Position: English Language Instructors at Toyo University/University of Montana (Tokyo)

Job Details:

English Language Instructor working as University ofMontana employee assigned to teach for the 2012-13 academic year at Toyo University in Tokyo, Japan (September 1, 2012-August 31, 2013).

Instructor will teach eight classes a week on the Japanese system (90-minute classes) in an experimental Special English Project designed to prepare a small percentage of Toyo students for study in English-speaking universities in the subsequent year. Short-course (2-3 week) TESOL-Prep Course and English Camp in February and/orMarch. The Special English Program is now in its sixth year.

Instructor is expected to work collaboratively for the program and to develop curriculum so that the best practices can be replicated. We are seeking an imaginative, creative, enthusiastic instructor who exhibits the TEFL/TESL profession’s best practices. The position is ideal for an exceptional candidate with some experience but still early in his or her career. Toyo students apply (500 in 2011-12) from all class levels and are selected (275 in 2011-12) for these English classes on the basis of past language-learning performance and an achievement exam; the students take the classes in addition to the typical academic load at Toyo.

NOTES: up to 6 openings. International candidates will be considered. Salary: $57,500. Employer will assist with relocation costs. A modern apartment in downtown Tokyo is provided; travel to and fromTokyo is provided, UM retirement and Japanese health insurance provided; $2200 for research and professional development is provided. The University will hold interviews at the JobMarket at the TESOL Convention in Philadelphia,March 29-31, 2012. Qualified applicants who can not attend TESOL will be interviewed by phone. Requirements:

(1)MA in TESOL or TESOL-related field required. (2) High level of English proficiency. (3) Demonstrated successful teaching experience. (4) Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administrative staff. (5) Ability to live and work effectively in a non-English-speaking environment.
