Job Position: Inward Investment Officer at British Consulate-General (Osaka)

Job Details:

The British Consulate-General in Osaka is looking for a dynamic, self-starting, business-minded individual to take on a key business-development role, starting at the end of July/beginning of August.

You will work in the busy and successful Japan team of UK Trade & Investment, the British government’s award-winning trade and investment promotion organisation. Your role will be to promote the United Kingdom as a destination for Japanese investment including manufacturing, R&D facilities and European headquarters. This will involve extensive travel within western Japan, visiting potential and existing investors to promote and support strategies to establish or expand a presence in the UK.

You will work closely with a range of stakeholders in Japan and Britain, including the British Embassy in Tokyo, UKTI colleagues in London and the UK regions, trade associations, and Ministries and other organisations in the UK.

You must be fluent in both English and Japanese and computer-literate. You must be comfortable dealing with very senior contacts in business and government. And you must be able to initiate and manage projects yourself. You will be responsible for a number of designated industrial sectors, likely to be in the advanced-engineering, automotive or renewable-energy fields, within which you will manage relationships with a number of important Japanese companies.

The sectoral responsibilities of the position are however subject to confirmation. You will in addition be expected to contribute with colleagues to wider issues such as the Consulate-General’s crisis contingency planning.

The position is offered initially on a three-year contract subject to satisfactory completion of a 6-month probationary period, with a starting salary in the region of Y500,000 per month, depending on experience and qualifications. The job attracts a commuting allowance, and bonuses paid in June and December. (If you are not liable to pay tax – eg if you are non-Japanese – your salary will be reduced accordingly.) Working hours are Monday-Friday 0930-1745, with some event-related work and travel outside these hours.

How to Apply:

Please send a letter explaining your suitability for the job, together with your curriculum vitae (resume) in English and a standard Japanese rirekisho form to: The HR Manager, British Embassy, 1 Ichiban-cho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 102-8381, in an A4 envelope clearly marked “Osaka Investment” by 30 June 2011.

The British Consulate-General is an equal opportunities employer. We recruit through fair and open competition aiming for a workforce that reflects the diversity of culture and community within Japan. All applications will be treated equally, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ethnic background or disability. We are open to flexible working arrangements where they can satisfy our operational requirements.
