Contract: Full-Time

Position Summary:

The Department of Linguistics, Languages, and Cultures (LiLaC) seeks a tenure system assistant professor of Japanese minority and/or gender studies. This is a nine-month, academic year position beginning August 16, 2024, with a course load of four courses per academic year. Housed within LiLaC, the Japanese Studies Program is one of the largest language and culture programs at MSU, and its major and minor programs emphasize a strong balance between cultural and linguistic fluency. The successful candidate will complement these strengths and engage in an active program of teaching (normally, two courses per semester), research and service/outreach. Teaching responsibilities will include a combination of courses within the candidate’s field of expertise, introductory courses in Japanese literature and culture, Japanese language classes, and/or courses in the College of Arts & Letters’ general education program in the Interdisciplinary Arts and Humanities.
