JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the President and Editor-in-Chief, the candidate will work closely with Nichi Bei staff to meet the overall marketing and programmatic goals of the organization. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional and creative professional who is highly organized, possesses advanced digital media skills, has event organization experience, and is a strong communicator, both written and verbal.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and execute marketing campaigns, including e-mail newsletters and social media channels to grow print subscriptions and social media communities.
  2. Promote via social media and video the “Nichi Bei Café” monthly livestream program, including serving as its associate producer and part of the production team.
  3. Help to organize and promote special events, including Films of Remembrance, the Northern California Soy and Tofu Festival, pilgrimages to the former Angel Island Immigration Station and Wakamatsu Tea and Silk Farm Colony sites, and other smaller events.
  4. Help to support and promote our major fundraising initiatives, including the Nichi Bei Day of Giving and smaller fundraising events.
  5. Maintain and manage a current list of media contacts for press releases. Ability to draft for approval press releases.
  6. Provide planning and logistical support for major programs and events.
  7. Help to develop and maintain portions of the main agency Website as well as microsites, including but not limited to the nichibei.org Website, Films of Remembrance Website, etc.
  8. Ability to organize and view Social Media Analytics Data and make reports and recommendations based on data analysis is a plus.
  9. Maintain the Nichi Bei social media channels such as Instagram and Facebook, as well as the Soy and Tofu Festival channels.
  10. Provide administrative support to the president and editorial team when needed, including supervision of volunteers and interns.
  11. Knowledge and experience of working within the Japanese American community is highly preferred.

Essential Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in marketing or related study area.
  2. Demonstrated experience in community work, organizing, forming
  3. collaborations, or related activities in a professional or volunteer capacity.
  4. Minimum 2 years of experience directly relevant to the position.
  5. Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google tools (Calendar, Drive, Doc, Sheets, Slides), as well as video editing software such as Final Cut Pro and / or Adobe Premiere preferred.
  6. Solid written and oral communication skills.
  7. Comfortable with quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  8. Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects.
  9. Ability to work as a team member with minimal supervision.
  10. Ability to develop effective work plans, organize details, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  11. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  12. Demonstrated sensitivity to racial, ethnic, social, and economic diversity.
  13. Language ability in Japanese is a plus.
  14. Proactive problem solver with a great sense of autonomy and a can-do attitude
