Overview:
International (UNT-I) is the administrative unit charged with directing all aspects of UNT’s international operations and partnerships. UNT-I is a growing and strongly supported organization, and is central to the university’s strategic internationalization.
In collaboration with more than a dozen colleges, schools and academic programs, UNT-I is aggressively expanding the university’s global reach. The division serves more than 2,600 international students and more than 100 foreign scholars, primarily on the Denton campus, with departments and offices ranging from International Student and Scholar Services to the Intensive English Language Institute.
Job Duties:
The Study Abroad Office is seeking to hire a Student Services Specialist III (Study Abroad Advisor–SAA) to join their team.
The SAA is responsible for advising students in order to find appropriate program options that fit their unique academic, financial, residential, and linguistic needs in both group and individual settings; monitoring student application processes to ensure students turn in proper materials necessary for successful abroad experiences; and will be the main office liaison with relevant student organizations.
The SAA will be the main coordinator for exchange programs, internships, and volunteer programs.
The SAA also advises special student populations which require additional programmatic considerations.
The SAA aids in preparing students for their experiences abroad through passport assistance, orientations, etc..
The SAA will additionally assist in the maintenance of office systems (StudioAbroad, Nelnet), and support fellow full-time staff during peak periods.
Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in related field and one year of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:
* Proficiency in MS Office
* Valid Texas Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment
Preferred Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have experience:
* Studying or working abroad
* Advising or other related student services
* Using StudioAbroad software system
* Working knowledge of internationally-related tasks such as visas, financial aid, passports, credit transfer processes, etc.
