A very popular Japanese gaming company located in the Santa Ana, CA area is currently looking for a Bilingual Localization Coordinator/Translator to join their team on a full-time basis.
This is a great position to get into the localization industry and further develop your translations skills by translating games, websites, and text in bonus components from Japanese to English. You would also be coordinating activities like communicating with licensors in Japan and other parts of the United States.
The salary range for this position DOE and skills would be around the 45k-66 mark.
Your essential duties for this position would include the following:
- Translate Japanese text into English, with responsible for maintaining essence of Japanese games as follows:
- Game text (script/story, UI, system, graphic text)
- Website text
- Text in the bonus item components (e.g. art books)
- Trailer text
- Communicate with the licensor in Japanese via email and/or video call.
- Coordinates with external parties in Japanese and English.
- Provides on-site directorial support at studios for voice recording sessions if applicable to assigned project.
- Provides general department support if/when needed.
- Proofreads all assigned text assets and suggests project improvements.
- Collaborate internally with other team members to complete projects / Routinely interact with department supervisors and other team members.
- Effectively communicate potential issues or ongoing issues to supervisors.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the management.
Please consider the following qualifications when applying:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience (Communication, Japanese Language and Literature or related a plus)
- Native level of English and business level Japanese.
- Experience working in a team.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
- Strong attention to deadlines.
- Experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
The following skills are preferred and would be a big plus:
- Experience with CAT tools such as MemoQ.
- Have lived in Japan or experience using Japanese on a regular basis.
- Understanding of video game concepts, terms, and gameplay (in particular RPGs).
- Good base of knowledge for gaming industry personalities and publications.
- Knowledge and history of RPGs.
- Interest in Japanese literature.
