【Summary】
The educational consulting firm assisting the youths of Japan in their pursuit of attending private and international boarding schools in North America and Europe. We are currently seeking an Educational Consultant to support our North American East Coast operations. We believe that finding the “best fit” is crucial in planning for long-term success. We work closely with each student and their family to develop a strategic plan that presents the best possible educational options and outcomes that match their needs. While experience is greatly appreciated, we value a willingness to learn even more!

They are interested in providing meaningful life coaching to elementary and middle school students, especially as many students from Japan require help in developing the courage, maturity, and direction to self-advocate. 【Job Description】
The educational consultant will be responsible for helping students and their families navigate the North American education system and the overwhelming independent school admissions process and offering support in the selection of boarding schools that best fit their interests and goals. They should be able to build strong relationships with students, families, and school administrators. The successful candidate will possess or have the willingness to acquire the following attributes:
● cultural awareness, open-mindedness, strong work ethic, creative problem-solving skills, and critical thinking with the ability to guide and advise with patience, compassion, positive energy, and empathy
● guide and encourage young children and teens and help with self-analysis, self-discovery, and boarding school discovery to improve successful admissions opportunities
● interest in creating a better world and enthusiasm for all things education, study abroad, and supporting future generations
● a deep understanding of the North American private independent school system and public education system, and a knowledge of Japanese and international education systems to coach and educate students and families about the differences, possible options, and realistic expectations
● knowledge of localized information and resources to prepare students for the best possible transition to their new environment
● highly detail-oriented, self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
● study abroad and overseas travel experiences highly desired but not required

【Essential Duties】

● Advise students and families on selection of schools and guide them through the application process ○ assess and evaluate student’s academic abilities, English proficiency, personal qualities and attributes, interests, objectives, and aspirations ○ recommend “best-fit” schools based on student preferences, needs, and realistic expectations ○ provide planning for admissions application, standardized tests, traveling, dormitory living, and cultural adaptation ○ provide advice on academic and extracurricular preparation until enrollment ○ schedule, arrange, and accompany appointments for campus visits and interviews
● Liaise with school representatives and community partners in North America and communicate professionally in English via phone, video conference, email, text message, and other forms of communication
● Translate and interpret documents and materials from English to Japanese and vice versa
● Assist students with dormitory move-ins and tending to chaperone duties
● Plan events and prepare promotional materials
● Manage expectations and counsel families through high-pressure situations
● Meet with advisors online, in person as needed, and check in with students and parents regularly
● Provide emergency support, including updates to family members in Japan

【Salary, Benefit】 $25/H

During busy business trip seasons, working hours will be adjusted after prior discussion
Business travel allowance available

【Qualifications】

● MUST be authorized to work in the United States
● MUST be able to follow instructions in English and Japanese –– carry out assignments/tasks to completion within the parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
● MUST be able to handle sensitive, personal, private, and confidential information with utmost care
● MUST have a valid driver’s license issued in the United States December 2023
● MUST be physically fit –– accompanying campus tours involves walking around vast campuses, climbing stairs inside academic, athletic, and dormitory buildings, picking up clients from airports and hotels (sometimes assisting with luggage), interstate driving from campus to campus, and occasional air travels
● Can travel –– accompany campus tours and in-person interviews on day or overnight trips; requires interstate driving and occasional air travel
● Clean driving record for 7 years (no DUI’s or Suspensions)
● Effective verbal and written communication skills in English and Japanese, including the ability to professionally communicate internally and externally with clients and partners
● Fantastic interpersonal skills with the ability to be a team player as well as work independently
● Work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
● Comfortable working without a typical routine where no two days are the same
● Computer proficiency skills –– Google Apps (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Forms), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe (Acrobat), and other applications as needed
● Previous experience in education, consulting, marketing, sales, advising, or a related field, or willing to train and learn with long-term commitment
