Founded in 1970, the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth serves as a catalyst for engaging Japanese and Americans in the business, education, public policy, and arts and culture sectors. The Society’s mission is to further mutual understanding and ongoing engagement between Japanese and Americans through quality programs in arts and culture, education, business, public policy, and international exchange. With a diverse portfolio of offerings and strong community partnerships, the Society positively impacts the North Texas community and fosters friendly relations between cultures.
The membership of the Organization consists of prestigious multinational corporations, professional organizations and service providers, educational institutions, executives, and individuals interested in growing the strong relationship between the USA and Japan.
Responsibilities:
- Mission Fulfillment
- Ensure the organization remains mission-focused, aligning budget, staff, and priorities with the mission.
- Deliver a balanced portfolio of effective programs and events, ensuring cultural authenticity, relevance, and quality.
- Continually assessing the staff, committee members and volunteers for the organization, ensuring communication, efficiency, high performance, and teamwork in alignment with the organization’s culture, goals, and objectives.
- Board Governance:
- Collaborate with the Board to develop and implement a rolling 3-year strategic plan and annual priorities.
- Actively engage Board members, fostering effective teamwork between the Board and Executive Director.
- Prepare reports and information for the monthly Board Meetings and manage the follow-up of points of action resulting from the Board Meetings.
- External Relations:
- Oversee a communications and engagement plan to raise the Society’s profile and publicize its programs.
- Represent the Society in the community, cultivating and maintaining positive relations with stakeholders and other organizations in the region.
- Fund Development and Membership:
- Seek corporate support through sponsorships and membership. Together with committee members, lead the membership strategy and sales activity to ensure growth and stability for the organization.
- Oversee fundraising events, including the Sun & Star Legacy Award Dinner and Sun & Star Golf Classic and other events held by the organization.
- Acquire and manage grant funding, through excellent persuasive communication skills and strong stakeholder management.
- Fiscal Management:
- Prepare and monitor the annual budget, and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
- Administer the Society’s funds according to the approved budget, and oversee sound bookkeeping/accounting procedures.
- Operational Management:
- Oversee day-to-day operations, maintain official records, and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
- Manage official agreements on behalf of the Society and advise the General Counsel when appropriate.
- Human Resources:
- Manage the productivity and performance of staff, ensuring a highly motivated, effective, and engaged staff delivering on the organization’s mission.
- Recommend staffing requirements, recruit and select staff, and manage staff resources effectively.
- Implement human resources policies, conduct annual performance reviews, and administer employee benefits.
Candidate Qualification:
- Leadership
- Creative and forward-looking strategic thinker, capable of identifying future needs and developing proactive strategies.
- Excellent organizational management skills, ability to coach staff, manage high-performance teams, and achieve strategic objectives.
- Extensive stakeholder management, including the ability to function effectively in a multinational environment.
- Experience
- Minimum ten years of professional experience, including supervisory roles.
- Experience in strategic planning, budgeting, human resources, marketing, and fundraising with major corporations, individuals, and other organizations
- Other Qualifications
- Demonstrated interest in and understanding of Japan, Japanese culture, US-Japan relations, and factors promoting inter-community activity.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.Ability to work effectively with diverse groups, passionate, mission-driven, and self-directed.
- Bachelor’s degree required, a graduate degree in a relevant field preferred.
- Proficiency/fluency in Japanese is preferred but not required.
- Moderate travel is required.
