Position: Assistant Professor of Japanese, Tenure Track

We seek candidates who specialize in Japanese Language and Literature or related studies. We are particularly interested in candidates whose expertise is premodern Japanese literature and who are able to teach courses in a broader East Asia context. Responsibilities include teaching Japanese language courses at all levels; teaching Japanese Studies courses (in Japanese and in English translation); advising Japanese majors and correlates (minors); and mentoring senior projects/theses as well as independent intensive studies.

Native or near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English is required. Successful candidates must have a doctorate degree in a related field by time of appointment and a record of, or potential for, excellence in college teaching and scholarship.

The Department of Chinese and Japanese at Vassar College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Japanese beginning August 2024.
