Two U.S. JETs remain unaccounted for as of Monday, March 21 8:22 am NY time. If you have any information, please email it to jetwit [at] jetwit.com.
- Taylor Anderson
- Montgomery “Monty” Dickson
From a recent comment posted to an earlier post on JetWit by Daniel Kahl:
“I got a call from the Hanamaki regional educational office. They say that MONTY DICKSON, ALT/JET in Rikuzen-Takada, Iwate is still missing. He had finished classes in the morning at one of the local schools and was last seen heading back to the Town Hall in the center of town, the area hardest hit by the tsunami. Many city employees are missing. We can only pray that Monty was somewhere else at that time.”
From a message board discussion of people looking for Taylor and Monty:
About Taylor:
“Last seen supposedly going home on her bike after the quake.”
About Monty:
“Apparently, Monty was in one of two groups during the evacuation, who had been to the City Hall in Rikuzentakata. One group had stayed in the City Hall, and the other went to a civic center. The people who were in the hall had to go to the roof when the waters rose, and those people were taken via helicopter to Daiichi Junior High. The City Hall was his last known location, and it’s not entirely sure which group he was in.”
“he’s always been “that” guy — the cool guy, the nice guy, the smart and language-endowed guy. So many times with us Japanese language students hanging out in the resource center, with his flawless Japanese and his laughs and just a general great comraderie. I remember getting ready with him for graduation in the spring of 2009, and us getting photos with our sensei together. It breaks my heart to think that someone like he, who has done so much and accomplished some amazing things, could be in a position of distress and upset.”

I noticed that his first name on the certificate is Montgomory. It might be good to start using his full first name, since that is probably the name on his gaikokujin torokusho.

Please, whoever wrote the above details about Monty, email me at: kahl@st.rim.or.jp We should compare notes. Thanks.
I’m sad to report that Taylor Anderson’s sister has posted on the Facebook group Sendai Family and Friends that the Embassy notified them this morning that Taylor’s body was found.
