Position: Education Marketing Intern

Overview:

The British Council is the UK’s international organization for educational opportunities and cultural relations. Its New York office is co-located within the British Consulate General.

The British Council is offering two four-to-six month New York spring internships to support the Education Marketing team to deliver on three British Council projects supporting UK universities, schools and colleges international marketing efforts in the USA

The interns will gain demonstrable skills and experience in:

  • International education
  • Event marketing and alumni relations
  • Social media and digital marketing
  • Market research
  • Copywriting and editing

Duties:

  • Support the delivery of a student marketing campaign using the GREAT brand.
  • Support the delivery of sector-wide and institution-specific events in the USA.
  • Identify, analyze and produce reports on newsworthy developments in US education that would be of interest to UK education institutions.
  • Undertake market research on the education market in a number of US cities.
  • Develop the current Education UK-USA webpage to make it more relevant for US students, with a focus on content development and selection.
  • Assist the development and implementation of a digital campaign to engage students and alumni.
  • Develop a range of marketing materials available to the Education Marketing team.

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

  • Either a recent graduate, or a graduate level student in marketing, business, communications or public administration
  • Demonstrable evidence of an interest in international education and cultural relations
  • Strong writing and editing skills – able to write in a concise, non-academic style
  • Experience using content management systems
  • Positive attitude and independent work skills
  • Ability to work in a small, fast-paced and geographically-distributed team
  • Working knowledge of social media and Microsoft Office

These internships are offered through the British Council intern program, which offers internships for 20 hours per week for up to six months. Interns expected to be present in the office a minimum of four days a week. Interns are paid $10 per hour.

As this British Council internship is co-located within the British Consulate General, please note the following guidance on employment eligibility.  Under US State Department requirements, the Embassy (and its Consulates) may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders or A or NATO visa holders with EAD cards*. If you hold a visa other than an A or NATO visa you are not currently eligible to work at the Embassy or its Consulates.  All candidates will be subject to background checks and security clearance.
