The Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco has an opening for an assistant in its Economic Affairs Section that will begin from December. The responsibilities of this section are broad, but include facilitating government, trade, and business relations between Japan and the United States.

The Economic Affairs Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support to three Consuls, collectively in charge of economy, industry, environment, finance, science, technology, information and telecommunications. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reception: Receive and direct incoming visitors, telephone calls, emails, faxes, mail and packages to the appropriate staff member.

- Vendor/Contractor Relationships: Maintain relationships with facilities, telecom, IT, legal, accounting, office supply and other vendors/contractors and contact them for support as needed.

Marlboro College, a liberal arts institution of 330 students and 39 faculty, invites applications for an adjunct instructor to teach a course on Japanese aesthetics during the spring term 2010. The course would serve as part of the academic preparation for a group of Marlboro students and faculty going to Japan at the conclusion of the spring semester to pursue several research projects on performance, photography, poetry, and contemporary Buddhist practice.
The course should address the theory of Japanese aesthetics as well as their expression in traditional and contemporary cultural forms across different media (dance, theater, literature, painting, photography, etc.). The course would be offered for two credits (rather than the usual four), and would likely meet only once per week.

McKinsey & Company, a global management consulting firm, seeks an interpreter for its Tokyo office.
The successful candidate would:
* Interpret from Japanese to English and vice versa for consultants and clients in all types of business meetings, from one-on-one interviews to large-group presentations
* Be proficient in consecutive interpreting, whispering, and simultaneous interpreting using a transmitter or in a booth
* Demonstrate capability across a range of industries, with specialization in one or two, e.g., finance, pharmaceuticals, or high tech.
Applications from university graduates with excellent spoken English and Japanese, and at least five years worth of interpreting experience are welcome.
To excel in this role, you must be flexible in responding to consultant and client requests, strongly motivated to continue improving your performance, and work well under pressure.
