The U.S.-Japan Council (USJC) is seeking an intern. This position will be remote and available for candidates residing in the United States. The intern will provide support for the U.S. team on a part-time or full-time basis.

This is an excellent internship for those hoping to gain experience working in the U.S.-Japan relations arena. The projects may include member relations, fundraising/donor relations, in-person / virtual program planning and delivery, and digital and strategic marketing initiatives in a non-profit setting. USJC’s internship program offers outstanding opportunities for college students, graduate students and graduates who are interested in broadening networks in U.S.-Japan relations.

We seek a candidate who is comfortable working with and analyzing data as well as writing/editing in English. Duties may be tailored to the intern’s interests. The interested applicant may choose the areas of interest from the following areas: Communications: Responsibilities include supporting the Communication Team by assisting with the team’s newsletters, event announcements, social media, and other promotional materials.

  • Development: Responsibilities include supporting the Development Team with fundraising efforts and engagement with donors by assisting with the data management, analysis and tracking of funds.
  • Executive Office: Responsibilities include supporting the President and other executive-level staff by assisting with high-level engagement with external stakeholders by strategically managing schedules and correspondence.
  • Membership: Responsibilities include supporting the Membership Team on the member relations and program support for their in-person or virtual regional events.
  • Programs: Responsibilities include supporting the Program Team and other teams by assisting with the planning and execution of in-person or virtual events by providing technical and other administrative support.

All internships are unpaid. Minimum length of internship is one semester.

  • Qualifications: A patient, diplomatic demeanor to work as part of a diverse, virtual team
  • Flexibility and the ability to multitask
  • Technologically savvy, proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Adobe
  • Experience with Salesforce preferred
  • Able to quickly learn new programs
  • Experience working in an office setting
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Native or near-native English
  • Japanese language or experience with Japan preferred
