Chicago Futabakai Japanese School is looking for a full-time teacher to join our English Department. Main Duties Include:

  • Design and implement lessons based on school and departmental standards.
  • Teach ESL classes for preschool, elementary, and middle school students.
  • Participate in department and school events, exchange programs, and internal/external meetings.
  • Conduct student placement and level checks, informal and formal assessments, and submit grades for each
    academic term.
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Work in a team setting to help achieve professional goals.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Native-like English ability (speaking, reading, writing, and listening).
  • B.A. degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
  • Experience working in an international multicultural environment.
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience with young English language learners.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Teaching, Applied Linguistics, TESL/TEFL or related field.
  • 5+ years of teaching experience with young English language learners.
  • Familiarity with WIDA standards and an ability to develop lessons in accordance.
  • 1+ year of experience working in a Japanese school system. Familiarity with Japanese organizational structures.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills
  • Receptive of feedback, observations, and co-teaching.
  • Japanese proficiency (sufficient ability to attend meetings and have basic conversations with colleagues and students as necessary).

Full-Time/Part-Time: Full-time (40 hours a week); 10-month academic schedule as per the Japanese school year. April-July, August-December, January-March

Start Date: Fall Term 2022
