Part of the Economist Intelligence Unit, the research and analysis division of The Economist Group, the ECN is the c-suite executive briefing and networking  service of The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

The Associate Director of the Economist Corporate Network (ECN) in North Asia will be  responsible for supporting the networks in Tokyo and Seoul, and  will work with the Network Director to deliver a full suite of editorial services to members including advisory  briefings, webinars, meetings, analysis and data.  

Individual executives join the network in order to understand the political, economic and business environments of the markets where  they operate, and to engage in discussions with the EIU and fellow members. 

The ECN service primarily consists of

  • a programme of meetings that create the opportunity to  hear from outside experts and peers 
  • private briefings (presentations) delivered to clients at their  management and strategy meetings 
  • curated interactions with ECN and EIU staff and fellow members
  • summary reports and data (covering key economies and  business issues) 

The ideal candidate will possess the confidence and capability to engage  senior executives; posses excellent analytical capabilities and the ability to  convey compelling analysis persuasively; and the skills to help organise and moderate highly  interactive discussions and meetings

Accountabilities – How you will contribute:

  • Contribute towards the editorial and analytical service of ECN in North Asia, sustain and  develop strong client relationships
  • Deliver services that meet the editorial standards of The Economist  brand 
  • Assist in the creation and delivery of the ECN programme and services in Tokyo and  Seoul to a high quality, working closely with peers and colleagues
  • Deliver to members insightful regular briefings which help them make better decisions for their businesses
  • Engage  members when needs arise, including assisting the Network Direcor in preparation of research and other presentation materials At ECN meetings
  • Source outstanding speakers, facilitate discussions that are highly stimulating, challenging and  participative
  • Work closely with the business development team to retain existing  members and attract new members, and develop value-added  customised services for members 
  • Deliver ECN’s program of online events and networking aimed at specific job functions, such as CFOs. 

Experience, skills and professional attributes – The ideal skills for this role are: 

  • Experience engaging with senior executives
  • Thorough and wide-ranging knowledge of Asian (especially Japanese  and South Korean) business, politics and economics 
  • An ability to connect economic, business and political trends to the day-to-day decisions and needs of executives
  • Can understand and uphold the values of The Economist Group
  • A keen grasp of commercial perspectives and outstanding editorial  and analytical judgment 
  • Fluent writing, presentation and moderation skills in English; Japanese or Korean a plus
  • Enjoys and is effective at networking with very senior executives
