Overview:

The Assistant Director of the University of Florida International Center (UFIC) Study Abroad Services (SAS) unit serves as a representative, administrator, leader, innovator, and partner for the success of study abroad at UF. The Assistant Director directly reports to the Executive Director of the UFIC and is responsible for supervising a team of 6 study abroad advisors and a senior clerk.

1). Policy Development & Registration
– Develops and implements in collaboration with the SAS team all operating procedures within SAS.
– Establishes and interprets policies for student advising, study abroad application processes, study abroad registration, and foreign transcript processing.
– Works closely with academic departments to register UF students for study abroad courses.

2.) Program Development and Assessment
– Collaborates with Executive Director to develop innovative study abroad programs, e.g. service learning, internships, career development programs, and programs for UF Innovation Academy students.
– Works with other UFIC units to build and launch a high-quality evaluation and learning outcomes assessment protocol for study abroad at UF.

3.) Representation and Liaising 
– Communicates and collaborates with UF faculty members, the Office of the University Registrar, the Office for Student Financial Affairs, Housing and Residence Education, and other UF academic and student affairs departments.
– Liaises between the UFIC and international institutions.
– Represents SAS on committees and at conferences as needed.

4.) Management and Supervision
– Provides assistance, support, and leadership to team of 6 study abroad advisors and a senior clerk.
– Promotes supportive working relationships and emphasizes continued learning, growth, and development of SAS team.

5.) Study Abroad Outreach and Recruitment
– Creates innovative approaches to recruiting students for participation in study abroad through marketing and outreach.
– Will play an active role in the implementation UF’s Internationalization Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) and its goal of increasing UF student participation in study abroad by 5% over the next 5-10 years.

6.) Study Abroad Training /Programming 
– Manages study abroad faculty member training program.
– Oversees study abroad advisor coordination of pre-departure, re-entry, and peer advising programs.

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience studying and/or living abroad.
-Experience supervising professional staff
-Excellent written and oral communication skills.
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
-Experience with Studio Abroad
-Proficiency in a second language
