Overview:

The Office of International Education at the University at Albany, State University of New York, intends to appoint an Administrative Assistant to the International Student and Scholar Services team.  ISSS documents and supports over 1,400 international students and more than 60 scholars from over 100 countries, as they engage in study and research at the University at Albany.

Job Duties:

The Administrative Coordinator for International Student and Scholar Services is a full-time 12-month position with full benefits.  Duties include:  accepting all inquiries (walk-in, e-mail, phone) from incoming international students about traveling to the U.S. and responding to or delegating inquiries as necessary; counseling all international students about routine academic and visa matters, ensuring that they are provided appropriate forms and instruction, and coordinating advisement with ISSS advisors and directors for complex questions; perform requested transactions, managing data bases, and maintaining student files; serving as Designated School Official in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System; planning and/or assisting in the organization of orientation programs, workshops and special events; working with the Registrar and Student Accounts to solve students’ issues; organizing mass mailings (domestic and international, electronic (mail merges) and hard copy);  editing newsletters/announcements to international students with information on regulatory changes, application deadlines, events on campus and in Albany, etc. and drafting/editing other ISSS print materials; supervising student employees and manage student employee workloads; participating on various office and University committees related to ISSS activities or international related initiatives; providing limited support to other International Education units as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

*   Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization and at least two years’ experience working in a customer service oriented environment
*   Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in fast-paced environment, skills in organizing and managing data and files for reporting and record-keeping compliance
*   Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
*   Ability to handle multiple tasks and complete work in a timely way
*   Excellent oral and written communication skills
*   As per Department of Homeland Security requirements, U.S. citizenship or permanent residency, in order to serve as a DSO
*   Applicants must address in their applications their ability to work with a culturally diverse population.

Preferred Requirements:

*   Prior experience working with international students, faculty or scholars in a college or university setting
*   Knowledge of and experience with SEVIS and PeopleSoft
*   Work experience in higher education
*   Cross-cultural experience through study or employment abroad, and/or through working with people in multicultural settings
