As a result of its growth, Merlin USA is seeking an experienced proposal writer to join its expanding team on a part-time, contract basis. The proposal writer will have primary responsibility to write and submit letter of inquires and proposals to private and corporate foundations as well as assist with research. The ideal person for this position will be comfortable juggling multiple writing and editing projects against tight deadlines with minimal oversight. The proposal writer will work closely with the development team and reports to the Director of Merlin USA.

Daily Responsibilities Include:

· Prepare high-quality letters of inquiry and grant applications focusing on private and corporate foundations.

· Write grant proposals and reports, coordinate budgetary and program information for grants, monitor the proposal review process, and maintain the proposal and report deadline calendar.

· Maintain and document funder contacts and proposal deadlines.

· Assist with programmatic research required for comprehensive grant proposals.

· Assist with researching foundations and present well-reasoned recommendations to build Merlin USA’s base of support.

· Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree.

· 1-2 years experience grant writing and/or development experience with a proven track record in raising funds for nonprofit organizations preferred.

· Knowledge of grant processes and funding sources for international medical relief as well as a sound understanding of nonprofit fundraising principles preferred.

· Excellent writing and communication skills.

· Outstanding organizational skills with strong attention to detail.

· Self-starter with demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to produce high-quality work in a timely manner under minimum supervision.

· Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs; experience with prospect research tools; and familiarity with Salesforce or other CRMs

· Understanding of international medical relief or international health development is not necessary but preferred.

· Sense of humor and good people skills, works well with others!

· Must be a US Citizen, permanent resident or hold an appropriate valid work visa
