Job: U.S.-Japan Council – Manager, Los Angeles position opening

The U.S.-Japan Council is a new non-profit membership organization in Washington, D.C. that promotes U.S.-Japan relations.  They currently have a position opening for a Manager in the Los Angeles area.

Position Description:

Manager, Los Angeles Office

The U.S.-Japan Council is a new nonprofit membership organization dedicated to promoting strong U.S.-Japan relations.  Headquartered in Washington DC, the Council is looking for an energetic professional to serve as the Council’s West Coast liaison in Los Angeles. As the only full time staff person in the Council’s LA office (there is a part-time professional), the position requires a combination of strong administrative and professional skills and the ability to work independently, while coordinating activities with the East Coast head office. Professional experience or educational background and interest in Japan and U.S.-Japan relations are desirable.

DUTIES:

Manager’s duties will focus on strengthening and maintaining relations with key stake-holders on the West Coast and providing support for the Council program needs on the West Coast.  They include but are not limited to the following:

  • Office Operations:  The Council Manager will handle the daily operations and general administration of the Los Angeles office.
  • Program Management:  The Manager’s program responsibilities include coordinating with the Washington, DC head office to administer several contracts with the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles and Japanese American organizations including:

Japanese American Leadership Delegation (JALD) Program: Primary staff to coordinate support of an annual leadership exchange program to Japan, coordinating with the Japanese Consulate in LA  and supporting recruitment efforts, orientation, communication and trip preparation.

Regional Business Network: Help strengthen a growing regional network of Japanese American and Japanese business executives, conducting outreach to the Japanese and Japanese American communities, providing staff support and follow up for activities.

Annual Leader’s Meeting: Support Council executive staff and the Japanese Consulate in LA in the organization, scheduling and implementation of an annual meeting for Japanese American leaders and Japanese Consuls Generals.

  • Website:  The Manager is responsible for updating the above program pages on the Council’s website.
  • Database: The Manager is also responsible for maintaining and updating West Coast contacts in the Council database.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five years or more professional experience required; experience in government or nonprofit sector are desirable.
  • College degree.
  • Strong Japanese language ability, written and oral, desirable.
  • Strong professional and interpersonal skills, solid writing skills, ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Administrative and office management skills, ability to multitask.
  • Database management (familiarity with salesforce.com desirable)
  • Website content management experience.
  • Familiarity with Windows Office Suite.
  • This position requires attendance of some evening events and limited domestic travel.

SALARY: Salary is commensurate with experience.
