Volunteers in Asia (VIA) is dedicated to increasing understanding between the United States and Asia through public service and service learning programs promoting cross-cultural education.

VIA is seeking an Executive Director who is a strategic manager with a strong personal and/or vocational commitment to expanding global cooperation and understanding through service learning and/or international education. Candidates should also be able to blend effective business methods with the mission of the organization.

Essential qualifications and experience

• Bachelors degree and a minimum of 3 years senior management experience in a nonprofit or public benefit organization of similar scope and size
• Demonstrated commitment to VIA’ s mission of expanding global cooperation and understanding with Asia . Cross cultural experience preferred
• Ability to conceptualize, communicate ,and lead the entire organization toward a shared vision
• A proven track record and enthusiasm for developing and maintaining foundation and major donor support
• Ability to attract, develop, and retain staff as well as maintain a high level of performance and to utilize their talents effectively
• Experience helping organizations evaluate and respond to emerging opportunities and challenges
• Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple projects in a rapidly changing environment
• Financial management experience with a budget of at least $1 million, including budgeting, oversight, compliance, and reporting abilities
• Ability to work occasional nights and weekends to support the Board of Directors and community events.
• Working knowledge of basic computer applications, database management and the Internet
• Current passport and the ability to travel to Asia 3-5 weeks and 3-4 trips domestically each year

Start date: June 2009
