POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
Reporting to the Deputy Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director of International Student Services is the primary designated school official on matters pertaining to student immigration and customs records. The Director manages and oversees the Office and performs the following duties.
Responsibilities include:
· Direct all aspects of the Office of International Student Services in support of the mission statement of the Division of Student Affairs and the College.
· Draft, recommend and implement College and CUNY policies and procedures on a variety of international student issues managed by the Office, such as admissions, health insurance, resident tuition, and English proficiency for international students.
· Create goals and objectives for the Office that are reflective of CAS Standards and monitor and evaluate the Office’s success. Responsible for the Office achieving its goals.
· Supervise staff and develop office policy to ensure efficient service delivery.
· Provide leadership in the development of international and diversity student activities and programs.
· Collaborate with the Office of Student Life and Leadership Development in support of programming efforts.
· Ensure appropriate record retention for all required program documentation and reporting.
· Serve as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) in all matters pertaining to the US Department of Justice (Immigration & Naturalization Service).
· Serve as Responsible Office (RO) in all matters pertaining to the US Department of State (US Information Agency) and the College’s Exchange Visitor Program.
· Advise international students on regulations governing F-1 status.
· Oversee SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) I-20’s issuance. Monitor SERVIS compliance.
· Advise students regarding curricular practical training (internships), optional practical training and IRS compliance.
· Produce and maintain the International Student Handbook.
· Plan and facilitate International Student Orientation in the fall and spring; provide or extend programs to ensure students have access to new information and programming requirements and are refreshed on previous information.
· Provide regular mentoring and advising support to discuss concerns and assist with adjustment to college and living in the U.S.; including information on living and transportation issues.
· Serve as an advisor/mentor to international student organizations.
· Establish appropriate relations with College community, faculty and staff to provide additional support and to inform students of resources available to them.
· Assist faculty and staff in the development of international student curricular programs and ESL curricula.
· Serve as a resource to the Office of Human Resources and the schools on matters pertaining to non-citizens being recruited by or seeking employment at the College.
· Act as City College representative to the CUNY International Education Advisory and the Council of International Student Advisors.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A bachelor’s degree in student affairs administration or related field and six (6) years experience in international student services and advising experience required; knowledge of current immigration regulations and SEVIS procedures preferred; master’s degree preferred.
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident in order to serve as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO).
