As summer approaches the JET Program Office is preparing to send out another group of new JET Program participants to Japan. Some of our new participants have little or no experience with studying Japanese and in order to help them acclimate to life in Japan, the JET Program Office offers a short crash course on survival Japanese.
For this purpose, the JET Program Office is seeking a teacher for the Japanese for Beginners course for new JET Program participants.
The course will meet four times, once a week after work for four weeks in late June/early July (exact dates TBD). It will take place at the Embassy of Japan in Washington, DC. New JET participants may attend any or all of the class meetings, and the typical class size is 5-10 participants. The JET Program Office will manage registration of students, providing the classroom and necessary materials (e.g. white board, photocopies of handouts, etc.), and in-class support if the teacher needs assistance.
The teacher will be expected to design the lesson plan for the four classes and carry out the primary role of teaching the JET participants who attend the class. The teacher should:
- be proficient in the Japanese language.
- have experience teaching/tutoring, particularly if that experience is teaching Japanese.
- be prepared to design the lesson plans and materials for the four classes.
- have experience with or knowledge of the JET Program and life in Japan.
