Indiana University Bloomington’s Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies (HLS) seeks a full-time tenure-track assistant professor of contemporary Japanese politics and society, broadly defined, to begin August 1, 2020. The position is 100% in HLS’s renowned multidisciplinary Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures (EALC). The teaching load is two courses per semester. Teaching responsibilities encompass both undergraduate and graduate courses and will include the teaching of a new course on “Japanese Politics and Society.”
This is an exciting moment to join the newly named and expanding Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies as it leads the university’s international research and teaching missions. Established nearly sixty years ago, the EALC department has a long history of interdisciplinarity and boasts faculty strengths in a wide array of social sciences.
Minimum requirements are a Ph.D. in a relevant social science discipline (e.g., sociology, anthropology, political science) and active research agendas examining contemporary political and/or social issues that involve Japanese-language sources and in-country fieldwork.
