The Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature at Baruch College of the City University of New York invites applications for a tenure track position for an assistant professor in Japanese language, literature and culture. We are seeking a candidate who is able to teach a broad range of areas and periods of Japanese literature, as well as Japanese language courses at all levels and Japanese studies courses in English. Additional responsibilities will include student advisement and assistance with co-curricular activities and administration of the Japanese Section.

Candidates with the experience and ability to integrate visual culture and cinema, and an interdisciplinary approach in their teaching will be preferred. In addition to these, a strong research portfolio will be essential. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity are particularly encouraged to apply. Compensation and Benefits:

$79,188- $93,134; Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

Qualifications:

A Master’s degree (MS, MBA, or equivalent) is required. Specialization in a quantitative discipline (such as operations research or operations management) is desirable. A PhD in operations research or a related discipline is desirable.

College level teaching experience in quantitative methods and decision analytics is required. Additional teaching experience in operations management is desirable. Related industry experience is also desirable.

Applicants should demonstrate effectiveness in teaching applied regression modelling, decision modeling, and solution of linear and non-linear optimization models, including the use of software. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to teach the full range of quantitative problem-solving skills and techniques, analytical solution methods, and interpretation and communication of model and results.

Applicants should demonstrate preparedness to teach effectively in at least two of three modalities: in-person, hybrid, and online. Applicants must live in a commutable distance of the Baruch College campus, or be willing to relocate if hired.
