Founded in 1959, the University of Kansas Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) at the University of Kansas (KU) is the major academic hub and premiere outreach network in the Great Plains region, disseminating knowledge about East Asian languages and cultures and building global competencies in the 21st century.
Serving as a national resource center, funded by the US Department of Education’s Title VI grant, one of CEAS’ main focuses lies in outreach programs on and off campus. The Center collaborates with other units, including other area studies centers, professional schools, the Spencer Museum of Art, the Lied Center, and the Hall Center for the Humanities, among others, to ensure the Center’s mission.
The Outreach Coordinator is expected to design, develop, and deliver outreach programs on campus and beyond to a wide range of community partners: K-16 schools, business world, government, military, and the local communities. To coordinate and carry out our outreach programs, the Outreach Coordinator utilizes a wide array of creative ideas, engaging materials, and media to reach diverse audience in in-person and virtual formats.
Job Description
40% Outreach Project Management
- Design outreach activities, develop programs, and maintain physical and digital materials
- Work with KU’s other units to collaborate and develop outreach programs to deliver to professional schools (especially STEM fields), research and art centers, and relevant units
- Build and maintain K-12 and community email contact list
40% Outreach to the Community
- Organize and facilitate visits to Kansas and Missouri schools with talks by KU personnel on East Asian language, cultures, and studies topics of current interest
- Organize and facilitate workshops on internationalization curriculum, especially with East Asian content, at community colleges and minority serving institutions
- Develop plans to further outreach programs to local businesses, government, military, and community
20% Administrative Assistance
- Assist CEAS director as needed in outreach initiatives
- Outreach-related grant writing and reporting
- Handle budget, reimbursement, and other related businesses

Position Requirements
The willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends for activities listed in job duties
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field (i.e. area studies, foreign language/literatures, education, history, etc.) and 3 years of related experience.
- Previous experience working in a team environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills as evidenced by application materials and interview process.
- At least one year of previous experience with project planning and project management
- Previous experience utilizing Microsoft Office suite products.
- Demonstrated experience or class work in international education, especially with East Asian languages, cultures & knowledge
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or other degree in an appropriate field
- Fluency in one East Asian language
- Grant writing experience
- Skills to create and maintain website, social media, podcasts, and other forms of digital media
- Supervisory experience
- Teaching Experience
