Executive Associate to the Director

Seeking an Executive Associate to the Director of the East-West Center in Washington to support the Director on strategic projects and ensure effective coordination with stakeholders. The position will play a key role in preparing the Director to represent the EWC as a policy expert at government briefings, public and private events with important stakeholders ranging from Indo-Pacific embassies to members/staff of Congress and in the private sector.  The Executive Associate will arrange special meetings for the Director, prepare agendas, and may attend and participate in external and internal meetings with and on behalf of the Director. The position will also provide administrative support to the Director which includes the planning and coordination of the Director’s travel itinerary, monitoring office budget matters, maintaining the Director’s appointment calendar as well as screening calls/visitors and handling the Director’s business email. The initial appointment is for two years.

Required Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in international relations, Asian Studies or the social sciences.  Plus four years of experience which required increasing responsibilities for collaborative projects from inception through execution and evaluation to ensure project goals and objectives are met.  Demonstrated professional experience working on Indo-Pacific related projects, programs and/or business with a strong understanding of the Washington, D.C. education, exchange, research and think-tank environment. Demonstrated ability and capacity to apply critical thinking and to work both independently and collaboratively to plan and implement projects/activities.  Effective problem-solving and active listening skills.

Strong writing/editing skills to synthesize information from various sources and convey program information and objectives in a compelling manner. Exceptional verbal and written fluency in English.

Demonstrated ability to assess operational issues and concerns and provide feasible solutions.  Strong organizational skills and ability to identify critical needs, follow through on assignments and deal with sensitive situations, using the highest levels of judgment and discretion and to appropriately handle confidential information. Demonstrated ability to set priorities and work under the pressure of deadlines and competing demands. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with people of diverse cultural, professional, and social backgrounds.

Highly effective interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, including the ability to write and speak to culturally diverse public and professional audiences. A high level of computer proficiency including Microsoft Word and Excel or equivalent office computer applications and database management software.

Preferred Qualifications:  Living and/or work experience in the Indo-Pacific.

Salary: Annual salary is $68,036 plus an attractive benefits package.

Projects and Programs Administrative Coordinator

Seeking a Projects and Programs Administrative Coordinator to provide administrative and general programmatic support for the EWC in Washington. Provides support for the planning, coordination, and implementation of various projects and programs initiatives, meetings, workshops, and seminars. Provides overall office management, assists with logistical arrangements for meetings, programs, seminars, and other events and processes payment and travel documents for all staff. The initial appointment is for two years.

Required Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Plus two years of experience working with projects and programs related to education, exchange, and research that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.

Demonstrated interest in and/or familiarity with Indo-Pacific international relations, political, economic, and social issues. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel Outlook, PowerPoint or equivalent office applications and database management software. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with web content management systems and social media software. Demonstrated ability to organize and carry out assignments by independently determining applicable regulations and procedures and appropriately applying policy and administrative directives; to apply sound judgement in making recommendations related to administrative matters; to maintain a high level of accuracy in working with numbers and other detailed matters; to work cooperatively and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds; to implement and coordinate logistical arrangements for conferences, workshops, and other meetings. Ability to effectively handle numerous complex details; to set priorities and work under pressure; to adjust work operations within available resources; to anticipate and solve problematic situations; to work independently; to adapt to changes; to appropriately handle confidential material; and exercise initiative and good judgment in dealing with a variety of situations.
