About The Japan Society:

The Japan Society is the leading independent body in the United Kingdom dedicated to the enhancement of the British-Japanese relationship in all its facets. With a history stretching back to 1891, its members are committed to promoting deep and lasting understanding between our two countries. In October 2007, the Society merged with Japan 21, an educational charity which supported and encouraged educational and grassroots activity relating to Japan. The educational programme complements our existing business-related, academic and cultural activities and enables us to provide opportunities for young people and adults alike to participate in projects and events across the UK.

The Japan Society has a full programme of events and activities for its members, both individual and corporate, about 50% of whom are Japanese. It also publishes annually its ‘Proceedings’, the bi-monthy ‘Japan Society Review’ and occasional other books. Within our schools programme, we have developed teaching resources, such as ‘Ready Steady NihonGO!’ and the KS1 & KS3 geography resources ‘Changing Place, Changing People’ and ‘Japan Detectives’, as well as providing support for school links and, through courses and resources, for Japan-related teaching in schools.
