Job Position: Curriculum Developer & Part-Time Instructor: English as a Foreign Language, (NYC)

Job Details:

Hot Bread Kitchen is a social-purpose bakery that enhances the future for immigrant women and preserves baking traditions. We offer fresh breads baked with traditional recipes from around the world. We train our bakers in English as a Foreign Language, business skills, and kitchen math so that they can launch new careers as business owners and culinary professionals.

Currently, our English classes are taught one-on-one by experienced volunteers. We are seeking an experienced educator to build the capacity of Hot Bread Kitchen’s English program and develop our industry-specific curriculum.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop curriculum and diagnostic assessments that incorporate industry-specific themes, vocabulary, and input from Hot Bread Kitchen staff
  • Assess new students and make recommendations for teacher placements and learning plans
  • Work with Hot Bread Kitchen staff to screen new volunteer English teachers & conversation partners
  • Lead orientation and training sessions for new volunteers
  • Timely communication with Hot Bread Kitchen staff to ensure synergy between classroom, kitchen, and retail training
  • Teach 2 weekly English classes to Hot Bread Kitchen’s bakers
  • Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 3+ years teaching English as a Foreign Language
  • Minimum 2+ years writing EFL curriculum
  • Experience administering standardized diagnostics or developing diagnostic assessments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Food industry experience a plus, but not required
  • Hours & Compensation:

  • This is a temporary, part-time position.
  • 10-12 hours/week for 6 months.
  • Possibility of extending contingent on funding and organizational needs.
  • Pay: $18/hour
