Job Summary Statement:
The senior editor edits a variety of comprehensive and difficult material for logic, organization, stylistic consistency, rational development of content and emphasis, and normally evaluate manuscripts not only to determine the amount of style editing required, but also to determine the value and logic of the content, or supervises a group of editors who perform stylistic editing of major publications (journals or entire books). The incumbent will edit, write and produce three or more publications with responsibility for planning content, and supervising design and production on an annual basis. Additional duties include developing and writing grants, and work with the Directors and other staff units in publication-related endeavors. Work with and/or supervise other staff in increasing our subscriber base and sales. The senior editor will plan and supervise work on web-related electronic materials related to the promotion of books and of the Press.

Required/Preferred
Demonstrated writing, editing and computer abilities and at least two full years of professional editorial experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a university or educational institutional setting.

Demonstrated ability to procure and analyze written materials in an editorial manner: from the perspective of an academic field or discipline, from the perspective of logic, style, and presentation , and from the perspective of content.
Required
Demonstrated working knowledge of Comparative Race Relations, History and the Humanities, Ethnic Studies, Labor Studies, or related field, or equivalent editorial or academic experience.
Required
Ability to assess, plan, organize, and carry through the editorial process at least three scholarly journals per year, and additional book or print publications throughout the year or equivalent experience.
Required
Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and spoken in dealing with scholars, students, editors, writers, and publishing personnel.

The ability to develop and write grants, and to work with the Director and other units in publication-related endeavors. The ability to work with and/or supervise other staff in increasing our subscriber base and sales.
