We are pleased to share with everyone that the Japan-America Society of the State of Washington has been awarded a grant by the Center for Global Partnership – Japan Foundation, New York in support of our Japan in the Schools Program for the specific purpose of hiring a full-time JIS Program Coordinator for the next two years. A full grant award announcement will be made at a later date.

The reason for this email is to announce the full-time coordinator position and to ask you to forward it to anyone who might be interested in applying. All those who applied for the previously advertised part-time position have been contacted and asked to re-apply if they are interested in this full time position. Japan in the Schools Coordinator

Job Description
The Japan in the Schools Program Coordinator has direct responsibility for the day-to-day oversight and operation of the program including the following:
• Coordinate and schedule school visits of program volunteers
• Recruit Japanese and American volunteer presenters
• Maintain the volunteer database
• Plan and manage volunteer training workshops in cooperation with experienced volunteers and workshop presenters
• Assist by attending school visits when necessary
• Track the location of program suitcases and maintain inventory of program supplies
• Promote the program to school teachers and public

Working with the Japan in the Schools Committee and Japan-America Society staff, the JIS Program Coordinator is also responsible for the following:
• Update promotional materials and visual aids as needed
• Prepare reports on the program as requested
• Plan and manage “Volunteer Thank You Party” at the end of the school year
• Manage volunteer activities for other cultural programs, such as Sakura Matsuri, Sakura-Con, Children’s Day, etc
• Other duties as directed

General JAS Administrative Assistance (appx 10-15% of work hours)
• Provide translation and interpretation help.
• Support Japan-America Society’s programs and events.  3 major fundraising events: Annual Meeting (April), Golf Tournament (July), and Holiday Celebration Dinner & Auction (December)
• Support other staff members with ad-hoc projects and large mailings.

This is a two-year, grant-funded position with one of the oldest international non-profits in the State of Washington. It is anticipated that funding will be secured beyond the initial two-year period.

Location:
Japan-America Society of the State of Washington office, downtown Seattle
Hours: This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position. The basic work week is M-F, 8:30-5:00. Some evening and weekend hours required.
Salary: $25,000 with a performance review and possible increase after 6 months
Other: Benefits package including bus pass, health insurance stipend, retirement contributions

Job Requirements
• Native level fluency in Japanese: speaking, reading and writing
• Ability to read, write and speak English
• Ability to use computers: Familiarity with Microsoft Office products preferred
• Attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a small office setting
• Willingness to speak in front of small groups
• Must be eligible to work in the United States
• Possibly some driving will be required. Must have a valid WA State driver’s license and be comfortable driving in city traffic and on highways.
