Job Description/ Responsibilities
1. Work with students
-Advise students on study abroad opportunities and the procedures involved to study abroad.
-Ensure compliance with best practices for study abroad.
-Develop and deliver study abroad information, orientation, including health and safety information, and re-entry sessions.
-Advise Returnee Network and inBUS, student organizations for returning study abroad students
-Maintain communication with study abroad students while abroad to notify of university deadlines, scholarship deadlines, and address issues regarding culture shock, health and safety, etc.
-Assist Director in work with returnees to evaluate programs, obtain feedback on programs and experiences for future students, ease transition and promote study abroad.
-Coordinate applications, interviews and selection of students for Loyola exchange programs.
-Help students with financial aid and scholarship applications, e.g. Freeman Asia, Gilman, Fulbright, NSEP, and IFSA Foundation and other study abroad scholarships.
-Serve as alternate emergency contact for summer programs.
-Monitor CDC and State Department Travel Warnings to ensure that students and faculty directors are aware of relevant information.***

2. Promotion and Marketing
-Promote study abroad opportunities to the Loyola community
-Recruit a diverse population for study abroad.
-Work with colleges and departments to identify appropriate study abroad programs for specific majors.
-Give presentations to classes, student organizations, residence halls and honor societies.
-Coordinate advertising, promotion and selection for exchange programs and ISEP.
-Represent the Center for International Education at campus recruitment fairs for prospective students and orientation programs for incoming Loyola students.
-Organize the annual study abroad fair.
-Maintain CIE study abroad website and works with faculty directors to ensure that websites are appropriately updated.
-Develop and maintain website for parents of study abroad students.
-Work with faculty directors to update study abroad brochures and publications, i.e. AJCU, IIE and Peterson’s and websites.

3. Program Development
-Work with Director to develop and identify new programs and locations and to establish agreements between Loyola and other institutions abroad.
-Develop and maintain on-line orientation and re-entry program.
-Work with Director to develop a required reflection component for all study abroad students.

4. Administration
-Work with director to train faculty directors regarding health and safety issues.
-Coordinate the application and registration process for study abroad students.
-Select, train and supervise Study Abroad Peer Advisors.
-Build and maintain database of programs and course transfer equivalencies.
-Maintain resource center for study, work, research and travel outside the U.S.
-Oversee the maintenance of student records related to study abroad including application materials and related information.
-Complete study abroad statistical reports.
-Update study abroad procedures for university.

Requirements:
-Master’s degree required or a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in study abroad advising or international educational exchanges.
-Previous experience in study abroad advising or international educational exchanges preferred.
-Minimum of one semester study abroad experience required.
-Strong computer skills (word processing, database, spreadsheet, desktop publishing.)
-Strong language skills, both oral and written.
-Demonstrated sensitivity to cultural differences.
-Demonstrated ability to work with detail and perform duties without close supervision.
-Ability to make mature and professional decisions even in the absence of policy. Ability to juggle multiple tasks and work under pressure.
-Knowledge of a second language and experience traveling and/or living abroad or other multicultural living experience is highly desirable.
