Job: Part-time speechwriting position at Japanese Embassy (D.C.)

Speechwriting Consultant, Embassy of Japan, Washington, DC

The Embassy of Japan is seeking an individual for the position of speechwriting consultant who will work for high-ranking officials of the Embassy of Japan. The position will be on a part-time, contractual consultant base, requiring approximately 2 days per week of on-site work at the Embassy of Japan.

The contractual conditions and salary will be negotiated based upon experience.

Principal Responsibilities

– Participate in brainstorming sessions for speech planning
– Research and prepare good materials and topics suitable for speech occasions
– Prepare ideas, speech content/outlines and talking points
– Edit, check and polish speech drafts
– Make suggestions on media relations
– Report on major papers, documents, published books and media coverage (including TV) dealing with topical issues in the areas of diplomacy, politics and economics

Requirements
– Knowledge of Japan-U.S. relations (strongly preferred)
– Demonstrated experience with speechwriting and U.S. economic and political policies (preferred)
– Experience with public and media relations (preferred)
