JAPAN BRAND UNFOLDS IN NYC

An Exhibition of New Traditions

January 25 – February 7, 2009

Monday – Saturday (11:00 am – 6:00 pm)

New York, NYFelissimo Design House is proud to announce the launch of JAPAN BRAND: Unfolding. Both a cultural exhibition and a commercial fair, this is a two-week showcase of contemporary products, rooted in the regional industries of 30 local Japanese Chambers of Commerce & Industry as well as Societies of Commerce and Industry. In this exhibition, centuries-old crafts are finding fresh expression.  With a focus on celebrating artisan quality, practical beauty, and regional sprit, JAPAN BRAND: Unfolding tells the story of innovation within the geographical context of the renowned industries of various regions.  The result is a beautiful and inspiring view into Japanese culture and commerce.

Free and open to the public from January 25 to February 7, JAPAN BRAND EXHIBITION features a carefully assembled mix of traditional materials and techniques applied to modern use.  It is a story of evolution-of the ancient pawlonia chest lending its expert joinery to a modern sideboard. Of timeless lacquering techniques applied to bold new forms. Of hand-woven textiles designed for the present, but made with an integrity and mastery inherited from the past.  Among the collection of products on display, various items will be available for purchase throughout the two weeks.

JAPAN BRAND EXHIBITION grandly debuted at Tokyo Designers Week 2007 and will be on display this January at Mitsukoshi Etoile in Paris, France before arriving with a special collection hand selected for display in New York City.  Felissimo Design House was chosen to host Japan Brand based on the success of its Japan C Exhibition as well as its landmark location.  Felissimo New York Director, Haruko Smith states, “I first saw Japan Brand at the Tokyo Designers Week in 2007, and remember the excitement this exhibition brought to the Japanese and international audiences alike.  Our team has worked together to create a very special experience that will be a treat not only to the eyes but also to the minds of anyone interested in cultural adventures.”

Along with the international exposure JAPAN BRAND has garnered, the exhibition functions as a unique marketing initiative for the participating Chambers of Commerce and Societies of Commerce and Industry.  Felissimo will ask visitors for their valued feedback on featured products as they explore the exhibition space.  This information will be gathered for participating companies in order to provide them with a glimpse into the US consumer’s view and response to their products.

As a participant of the New York International Gift Fair, JAPAN BRAND will be displaying a selection of products in the General Gift division to give all NYIGF attendees a preview of the inventive Japanese goods as they launch in the U.S. market for the first time.
