font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"> <\/span><\/span><em>obser<\/em><em>vat<\/em><em>ions.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>One of my favorite things about Japan is the constant changing of flavors, often in accordance with the seasons.\u00a0 I love just wandering through <em>conbini<\/em> to see what new tastes have popped up for my favorite snacks\/drinks.\u00a0 One product over there I follow religiously is Kit Kats, as you can often get flavors that are not available here in the States.\u00a0 This is why I was thrilled to receive an <em>omiyage<\/em> of ginger ale Kit Kats from a friend who had recently traveled to Japan.<\/p>\n<p>Next to the customary phrase, &#8220;Have a break, have a Kit Kat&#8221; was a glass of ginger ale with lemon in it.\u00a0 With use of .3% lemon powder and ginger ale flavor, it promised to be something new.\u00a0 The aroma was <!--more-->definitely more lemony\u00a0than ginger aley, and the taste was zesty as well.\u00a0 I would have to describe it as much more citrusy than ginger ale, but it was relatively refreshing.<\/p>\n<p>However, I <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-10000\" title=\"IMG_2437\" src=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/IMG_2437-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2437\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/IMG_2437-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/IMG_2437-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/IMG_2437.JPG 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>don&#8217;t think it would make the top of my Kit Kat flavor list, which currently is headed b<em>y azuki<\/em> or red bean Kit Kats.\u00a0 They are not shown in the picture on the left but had a deliciously creamy taste which were like heaven for an <em>anko<\/em> addict such as myself.\u00a0 Second on the list would be the <em>Uji Maccha<\/em> flavor (the bottom of the three), perhaps because they remind me of whisking <em>maccha<\/em> while living in Japan for the first time in Uji, Kyoto as an exchange student.\u00a0 They are rich but not too much so, perfect for an afternoon snack.\u00a0 The middle jasmine flavor was a bit cloying, and the citrusy taste of the yuzu Kit Kats on top was preferable to the ginger ale ones.\u00a0 I&#8217;m looking forward to trying some new flavors next year!<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>In other Japanese trend news, Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance announced this year&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asahi.com\/national\/update\/1222\/TKY200912210450.html\">most popular boy\/girl names<\/a>.\u00a0 For boys it was \u7fd4\u592a (can be read as Hiroto, Yamato or Haruto) and for girls for the second year in a row it was \u967d\u83dc (Hina or Haruna).\u00a0 Runners up were \u7fd4 (Sho or Kakeru), \u745b\u592a (Eita) and \u5927\u548c (Yamato) for boys, and \u7f8e\u7fbd (Mitsu or Mihane) and \u7f8e\u54b2 (Misaki) for girls.\u00a0 The reasoning behind these names was that with \u7fd4 which refers to flight, parents are expressing their hope that their sons soar into the new era.\u00a0 Incidentally the second character \u7fbd in Mitsu\/Mihane means feather and the name literally translates as &#8220;beautiful feather,&#8221;
