JOB #1:\u00a0 Adjunct instructor for Japanese Aesthetics Course<\/strong><\/p>\n

Marlboro College<\/strong><\/a>, a liberal arts institution<\/span> of 330 students and 39 faculty, invites applications for an adjunct instructor<\/strong> to teach a course on Japanese aesthetics<\/span> during the spring term 2010. The course would serve as part of the academic preparation for a group of Marlboro students and faculty going to Japan<\/span> at the conclusion of the spring semester to pursue several research projects on performance, photography, poetry, and contemporary Buddhist practice.<\/p>\n

The course should address the theory of Japanese aesthetics as well as their expression in traditional and contemporary cultural forms across different media (dance, theater, literature, painting, photography, etc.). The course would be offered for two credits (rather than the usual four), and would likely meet only once per week.<\/p>\n

Title:<\/strong> Assistant to the Project Director Freeman Foundation Undergraduate Asian Studies Initiative II Marlboro College<\/p>\n

Salary and hours:<\/strong>
\n\u2027 $14 per hour, ten hours per week, fifty weeks per year.
\n\u2027 No additional benefits.
\n\u2027 Specific hours are flexible, to be determined through negotiation between assistant and project director.
\n\u2027 This is a temporary<\/strong>, grant-funded position.<\/p>\n

Position Responsibilities:<\/strong>
\n\u2027 Organizing joint faculty-student trips to Asia, specifically Japan and China.
\n\u2027 Coordinating with academic counterparts and foreign affairs offices at universities in Asia.
\n\u2027 Booking flights, hotels, domestic transport, guide services, and translators in Asia.
\n\u2027 Booking and mounting Asia-related art exhibits, film series, performances and lectures at Marlboro College.
\n\u2027 Assisting director with the coordination of small academic conferences<\/span>.
\n\u2027 Making arrangements for Asian scholars-in-residence at Marlboro College<\/span>.
\n\u2027 Basic accounting<\/span> of grant expenses.
\n\u2027 Working with director to write annual reports to the Freeman Foundation.
\n\u2027 Conducting<\/span> outreach to local high schools<\/span> concerning Marlboro\u2019s Asian studies program<\/span><\/p>\n

Position Requirements<\/strong>

\n\u2027 Strong written and verbal communication skills<\/span>
\n\u2027 Good organizational skills
\n\u2027 First-hand experience traveling in Asia and working with Asians<\/p>\n
