We are pleased to\u00a0share with everyone that the Japan-America Society of the State of Washington has been awarded a grant by the Center for Global Partnership – Japan Foundation<\/span>, New York in support of our Japan<\/span> in the Schools Program for the specific purpose of hiring a full-time JIS Program Coordinator for the next two years. A full grant award announcement will be made at a later date.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

The reason for this email is to announce the full-time coordinator position and to ask you to forward it to anyone who might be interested in applying. Japan in the Schools Coordinator <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Job Description<\/strong><\/span>
\nThe Japan in the Schools Program Coordinator has direct responsibility for the day-to-day oversight and operation of the program including the following:
\n\u2022 Coordinate and schedule school visits of program volunteers
\n\u2022 Recruit Japanese and American volunteer presenters
\n\u2022 Maintain the volunteer database
\n\u2022 Plan and manage volunteer training workshops in cooperation with experienced volunteers and workshop presenters
\n\u2022 Assist by attending school visits when necessary
\n\u2022 Track the location of program suitcases and maintain inventory of program supplies
\n\u2022 Promote the program to school teachers and public
\n
\nWorking with the Japan in the Schools Committee and Japan-America Society staff, the JIS Program Coordinator is also responsible for the following:
\n\u2022 Update promotional materials and visual aids as needed
\n\u2022 Prepare reports on the program as requested
\n\u2022 Plan and manage \u201cVolunteer Thank You Party\u201d at the end of the school year
\n\u2022 Manage volunteer activities for other cultural programs, such as Sakura Matsuri, Sakura-Con, Children\u2019s Day, etc
\n\u2022 Other duties as directed<\/p>\n

General JAS Administrative Assistance (appx 10-15% of work hours)
\n\u2022 Provide translation and interpretation help.
\n\u2022 Support Japan-America Society\u2019s programs and events.\u00a0 3 major fundraising events: Annual Meeting (April), Golf Tournament (July), and Holiday Celebration Dinner & Auction (December)
\n\u2022 Support other staff members with ad-hoc projects and large mailings.<\/p>\n

This is a two-year, grant-funded position with one of the oldest international non-profits in the State of Washington. It is anticipated that funding will be secured beyond the initial two-year period.
\n
\nLocation:<\/strong> Japan-America Society of the State of Washington office, downtown Seattle
\nHours: <\/strong>This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position. The basic work week is M-F, 8:30-5:00. Some evening and weekend hours required.
\nSalary:<\/strong> $25,000 with a performance review and possible increase after 6 months
\nOther: <\/strong>Benefits package including bus pass, health insurance stipend, retirement contributions<\/p>\n

Job Requirements <\/strong><\/span>
\n\u2022 Native level fluency in Japanese: speaking, reading and writing
\n\u2022 Ability to read, write and speak English
\n\u2022 Ability to use computers: Familiarity with Microsoft Office products preferred
\n\u2022 Attention to detail
\n\u2022 Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a small office setting
\n\u2022 Willingness to speak in front of small groups
\n\u2022 Must be eligible to work in the United States
\n\u2022 Possibly some driving will be required. Must have a valid WA State driver\u2019s license and be comfortable driving in city traffic and on highways.<\/p>\n
