On September 2<\/span>, AEI’s Michael Auslin<\/span><\/strong><\/a> will moderate a panel discussing Japan’s August 30<\/span> general elections. If it wins, the Democratic Party of Japan<\/span> will focus on reversing the country\u2019s sharpest economic downturn<\/span> since World War II<\/span>, but it will also face numerous foreign policy challenges. The panel will include Kevin Maher<\/span><\/strong>, director of the Japan<\/span> desk at the State Department, Len Schoppa<\/strong> of the University of Virginia<\/span>, and Nick Szechenyi<\/strong> of the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
