“Challenges of Banking in an Economic Crisis”<\/em><\/strong>
\n<\/em><\/strong>Speaker : Masamichi “Mitch” Yasuda
\nSenior Executive VP\/Deputy CFO, Union Bank<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Japan-America Society is pleased to announce Mr. Masamichi \u201cMitch\u201d Yasuda <\/strong>as our featured speaker for a September 25 <\/strong>lunch program titled \u201cChallenges of Banking in an Economic Crisis.\u201d <\/strong>Mr. Yasuda will speak about the state of the economy in Japan today compared to its post-bubble years, and the economic challenges facing U.S. bankers. He will also touch on how Union Bank has been able to stay successful during these difficult economic times.<\/p>\n

Mitch Yasuda is a senior executive vice president of Union Bank<\/strong> N.A.\u00a0 He was named to his position in 2009. Mr. Yasuda provides oversight to the bank\u2019s finance division, and has executive responsibility for business development outreach to Japanese companies operating in the U.S.\u00a0 He also oversees the bank\u2019s Liaison Affairs division, which works in partnership with Union Bank\u2019s management and The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. <\/strong>(BTMU), Union Bank\u2019s parent company.\u00a0 Mr. Yasuda is a member of the bank\u2019s executive management committee and the CEO Forum.\u00a0 He has extensive international experiences, which include assignments in New York and London.\u00a0 Prior to joining Union Bank in June this year, Mr. Yasuda was general manager and treasurer of the Global Markets Division for the Americas at BTMU in New York. \u00a0He joined The Bank of Tokyo, Ltd., a predecessor of BTMU, in 1983.\u00a0 A native of Kobe, Japan, Mr. Yasuda holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in law from the University of Hitotsubashi.<\/p>\n

Union Bank legally changed its name from Union Bank of California to Union Bank in December, 2008, and introduced a new logo and related branding treatments on July 1, 2009.\u00a0 It is California\u2019s fifth-largest bank by deposits, and it has 335 banking offices in California, Oregon, and Washington and two international offices.<\/p>\n
