RESIDENT DIRECTOR, JAPAN CENTER FOR MICHIGAN UNIVERSITIES<\/span> (JCMU) Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, Japan<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Resident Director is responsible for managing and administering JCMU academic programs, day-to-day operations of the Center, including the budget and supervising students, staff, and faculty. Other duties include teaching a Japanese Culture and Society<\/span> course, representing the JCMU consortium in public functions, and maintaining communications with MSU and relevant Japanese and American associates.<\/p>\n

JCMU is administered by Michigan State University<\/span> (MSU) on behalf of the State of Michigan and its fifteen public universities<\/span>, and in cooperation with Shiga Prefecture<\/span>. Please see http:\/\/www.isp.msu.edu\/jcmu\/<\/span><\/a> for more<\/span> information.<\/p>\n

The resident director is a full-time, annually renewable position with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2009<\/span>. Salary is commensurate with qualifications. Compensation includes a full MSU benefits package.<\/p>\n

JCMU operates in facilities owned by Shiga Prefecture on the shore of Lake Biwa, in the town of Hikone<\/span>, approximately one hour from Kyoto.<\/p>\n

Required Qualifications and Competencies:<\/strong>
\n* Master’s degree<\/span> with Japan specialization.
\n* Experience in teaching about Japanese culture and society<\/span>.
\n* Academic administrative experience (including strong organizational skills; budget management and administration; ability to coordinate academic programs; supervision of faculty, staff, and students).
\n* High degree of proficiency in speaking and writing Japanese and English languages<\/span>.
\n* Ability to work cooperatively and decisively within an organization encompassing two cultures and several institutions.<\/p>\n

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies:<\/strong>
\n* Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
\n* Previous experience in the administration of a study abroad program designed for American students.
\n* Evidence of Japan-related scholarship.<\/p>\n
