{"id":5934,"date":"2009-05-13T12:18:37","date_gmt":"2009-05-13T16:18:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/?p=5934"},"modified":"2009-05-13T12:21:39","modified_gmt":"2009-05-13T16:21:39","slug":"japanese-culture-trends-in-nyc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/2009\/05\/13\/japanese-culture-trends-in-nyc\/","title":{"rendered":"Japanese culture trends in NYC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamarjobot.com\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.komediaentertainment.com\/gamarjobat\/images\/gamarjobat.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"289\" height=\"325\" \/><\/a>Many of us are now aware that modern Japanese culture has essentially turned New York City into New York-<em>ku<\/em>, with Pocky and Pretz widely available, new ramen shops and <em>izakaya<\/em>s popping up every week and Japanese hair salons throughout the city.\u00a0 And of course you can&#8217;t swing a Kinokuniya bag without hitting a Japanese style karaoke bar.<\/p>\n<p>But yesterday alone I noticed yet three more examples of Japanese culture&#8211;perceived as so impentrable by much of the world&#8211;penetrating further into New York-<em>ku<\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.citybakery.com\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>City Bakery&#8217;s<\/strong><\/a> (3 W. 18th St) baked goods now all seem to have Japanese subtitles on the little signs sticking out from the muffins and other items.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/tastingtable.com\/email\/campaign\/640.html\" target=\"_blank\">Opening of the <strong>Japanese Culinary Center<\/strong><\/a> (the &#8220;Other JCC,&#8221;
