As content partners, Nikkei Asia and the FT share select articles with their audiences and collaborate editorially.<br><br><strong>Position Overview<br><\/strong><br>Nikkei America is looking for a Media Researcher\/Assistant Reporter for its Washington D.C. bureau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more sparrosd@gmail.com-->\n\n\n\n<p>This position is responsible for providing quality reporting, writing, and editorial support to the bureau chief and correspondents, as well as the administrative support necessary to run the bureau as a news organization.<br><br>This position may attend press conferences alone or travel to other parts of the country and may collaborate with reporters in other areas, such as New York and Tokyo. In addition to the core responsibilities of assisting the bureau chief and correspondents as a researcher, the position may occasionally involve writing and editing English-language stories for publication in Nikkei Asia and other media published or distributed by Nikkei group companies, when possible.<br><br><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong><br>\u2022 In accordance with the bureau chief&#8217;s instructions, gather information relevant to the bureau\u2019s news-reporting activities and conduct verification, fact-checking, and follow-up research as needed.<br>\u2022 Research individuals or groups relevant to current events and trending news topics, based on a clear understanding of the needs of the bureau chief, correspondents, and subscribers.<br>\u2022 Prepare comprehensive, easy-to-read summaries of findings and provide actionable recommendations to the bureau chief and correspondents.<br>\u2022 Build and maintain strong relationships with key policymakers, government officials, experts, and other influential figures.<br>\u2022 Assist the bureau chief and correspondents in securing exclusive interviews with government officials and other key individuals.<br>\u2022 Stay informed on a wide range of U.S. political, economic, social, and cultural issues by attending press conferences, events, and reaching out to key contacts.<br>\u2022 Schedule interviews for the bureau chief and correspondents; collect, analyze, and organize essential data related to those interviews.<br>\u2022 Assist the bureau chief and correspondents with written and oral English communication as needed.<br>\u2022 At the request of the bureau chief or correspondents, locate interviewees, conduct initial interviews on their behalf, and provide detailed feedback on the results.<br>\u2022 Understand and stay aligned with the Nikkei Group\u2019s editorial direction; engage in proactive networking to help the organization stay competitive and enhance content quality.<br>\u2022 Collect and organize data from a variety of sources, including newspapers, magazines, television broadcasts, blogs, and online platforms.<br>\u2022 Maintain an up-to-date contact list of government officials, industry leaders, and other relevant individuals.<br>\u2022 Serve as a liaison between the bureau and external institutions, making necessary arrangements for news-reporting activities, such as securing media passes.<br>\u2022 Collaborate with other correspondents, under the news editor\u2019s direction, to enhance the overall value of Nikkei content and support the execution of the news department\u2019s operations.<br>\u2022 In addition to core researcher responsibilities, occasionally write and edit English-language stories for publication in Nikkei Asia and other media published or distributed by Nikkei Group companies, when possible.<br>\u2022 Use findings from research and interviews to write concise, accurate, and factual articles.<br>\u2022 Edit stories as needed in preparation for editorial approval and publication.<br>\u2022 Perform other duties related to the operations of the Washington bureau as required.<br><br><strong>Location<\/strong><br>\u2022 Washington, D.C.<br>\u2022 Requires a minimum of two in-office workdays per week;
