Together with Hunter College\u2019s Japanese Program, we invite you to a talk event\u00a0Bash\u014d: Where Now?<\/em>\u00a0to mark the publication by the University of California Press of\u00a0Bash\u014d: The Complete Haiku of Matsuo Bash\u014d<\/em>. The author,\u00a0Andrew Fitzsimons<\/strong>, will be in conversation with Pulitzer Prize-winning poet,\u00a0Paul Muldoon<\/strong>, about the work and legacy of one of the greatest figures in the history of Japanese literature, the master of haiku,\u00a0Matsuo Bash\u014d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matsuo Bash\u014d<\/strong> (1644\u20131694) remains the greatest poet of Japan and one of the major figures of World Literature. His work has inspired haiku to become the most popular poetic form in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PLEASE NOTE<\/strong>\u2013 All non-Hunter College attendees will be required to show a valid photo ID (governmental, state, passport, etc.) to obtain a pass from the Visitor\u2019s Center to gain access to Hunter College’s campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speakers<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Paul Muldoon<\/strong>\u00a0is an Irish poet and professor of poetry, as well as an editor, critic, playwright, lyricist, and translator. In addition to the Pulitzer Prize, he has received the T. S. Eliot Award, the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in Literature, the Irish Times Irish Literature Prize, the Griffin International Prize for Excellence in Poetry, and the Queen\u2019s Gold Medal for Poetry<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrew Fitzsimons<\/strong>\u00a0is also an Irish poet and is a Professor of English Language and Cultures at Gakushuin University, Tokyo, and author of\u00a0The Sea of Disappointment: Thomas Kinsella\u2019s Pursuit of the Real<\/em>, as well as three books of poetry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event is co-organized by the Japan Foundation, New York, and Hunter College\u2019s Japanese Program<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
